Sun’s Menlo Park headquarters had been emptying out for some time, and I spent a lot of that summer rounding up and giving away old Sun swag. We had a party with some of it.

The final edition of Sun Tech Days was held in Hyderabad in March, 2010 – after that, all events were Oracle-branded. This was my last big trip for Sun, and of course I jumped at any opportunity to go to India. I was amused to catch the above billboard on my way in from the airport. I had not met James Gosling at that point. When he was pointed out to me in the hotel café, he looked grumpy and unapproachable (not his usual style), and he quit Oracle soon after that.

I don’t remember now why we needed to get a bunch of people together in MPK or what, if anything, we accomplished. But it was fun!

I returned from south of the equator directly to the Bay Area, to attend the Community Leadership Summit and OSCON, held that year for the first and only time in San Jose rather than Portland.

We did a bunch of fun stuff for Sun, including conversations between a puppet named Jack Adams and several Sun engineers.
